Taekwon-Do
Origins :
T'aekwŏn-do (Hangul:태권도/Hanja:跆拳道)
is a un-armed form of self defence that can trace
its roots
back to the the Silla Dynasty in Korea. Taekwon-Do
is a compilation of many ancient arts and was formally
named "Taekwon-Do" by the late Grand Master,
General Choi Hong Hi back in the late 1950's.
Taekwon-Do literally means "The
way of the hand and foot ( foot being "Tae" 태/
跆, hand being "Kwon" 권
/拳
and the way being "Do"도/
道) The Art of Taekwon-Do
was brought to Australia in the early 60's and has
since been taught by many Instructors in many ways
to many many students all over the nation and the
world.
Yin
Yang Taekwon-Do has its foundation set in the patterns,
techniques and basics as they have been passed down
from Master to Master. Our teaching style reflects the
modern age that we live in but the end result is as
it always has been ........devastating techniques!
Yin
Yang Taekwon-Do teaches and performs the "Chan Hon"
series of Taekwon-Do patterns as developed by General
Choi. We also teach a number of patterns unique to our
own style. In total we teach 25 patterns , 10 coloured
belt patterns and 15 Black belt patterns. A common saying
within the martial art world is that you are only just
beginning to learn the art once you reach Black Belt
level, with 15 further patterns to learn you can probably
see why!
Yin
Yang Taekwon-Do :
Chief
Instructor Shane Astwood, after many years of successful
teaching under a number of Taekwon-Do groups has set
up Yin Yang Taekwon-Do. The total focus of Yin Yang Taekwon-Do
is to inspire its students to be the best that they
can be!
Yin Yang Taekwon-Do is affiliated with the International
Taekwon-Do Federation under the presidency of Prof.
Chang Ung. Our National governing body boasts a contingent
of no less than 6 Master Instructors, the president
of our body being Master Robert Lai, 7th Degree Black
belt. The Taekwon-Do techniques we teach are taught
in strict accordance with the teachings of the late
Genera Choi Hong Hi, the founder of Taekwon-Do.
While
our primary focus is that of Taekwon-Do, we also compliment
our teaching with various aspects of other fighting
systems. With our world wide network of Master instructors
one can see why Yin Yang Taekwon-Do is able to provide
quality instruction in the true art of self defence.
The
success of Yin Yang Taekwon-Do as an Art form is measured
by the excellence that our students show, both physically
and mentally- their increased self esteem, their increased
confidence, their increased fitness levels, their application
of self defence skills and their increased feeling of
self satisfaction! Success is a personal journey of
goal achievement and our goal is to help you! What are
your goals?
Yin
Yang Taekwon-Do is an Art of Physical Intelligence!
Our curriculum, character and teaching style brings
out the best in people. Whether you are male or female,
young or old, strong or weak, fit or un-fit all can
benefit from our training. Striving to be the best that
you can be is what is important to us!
Our
Logo :
Our
logo carries within it much meaning. Not only the colour
but also the design. The four points on the circle indicates
north, south, east and west on a compass, thus sybolising
direction.
The
Yin Yang symbol (the red and yellow tear drop shape)
represents opposites, which, when put together,
give balance,( male and female, night and day, hard
and soft etc). The colours red and yellow within
the Yin Yang symbol, while being the most contrasting
of colours also represent the physical side of the
art (red) and the intellectual side of the art (yellow).
The
white fist in the centre has been part of Taekwon-Do
tradition and is found in the original logo as used
by General Choi, thus showing our heritage.
Summing
up, this logo represents an Art of Physical Intelligence
backed by tradition heading in the right direction!
